Restore Your Smile
Inlay & Onlays In Lawrenceville, GA
Also serving Duluth, Norcross, Suwanee & Arbor Trace
Sometimes, even with good care and regular dental checkups, a tooth will get damaged and require some restoration procedure from your dentist. The good news is that when you visit Optima Dental, you will be have a number of options to solve your dental problems. Among those are inlays and onlays.
What Are Inlays and Onlays?
Even when damage to a tooth is too great for a traditional filling, you don’t necessarily need a full crown to treat your damaged tooth. An inlay is a partial crown that’s used when the cusps of the tooth are undamaged, and it can be placed between the points of your tooth. If the damage to the tooth is more extensive including one or more cusps, then an onlay can be used.
How Are Inlays and Onlays Fitted?
When you visit our clinic in Lawrenceville, Georgia, we will first examine your teeth carefully to see the extent of the damage. We can then begin the restoration process after the damage has been evaluated and the restoration option has been decided.
With inlays and onlays, we begin by removing the decayed part of the teeth. Once this is removed and cleaned, we then make an impression of your teeth which we take back to the lab. That impression is used to help create an inlay or an onlay that will fit perfectly. We make the inlay or onlay from a composite resin, porcelain, or even gold.
After your first visit, we place a temporary inlay / onlay on your damaged tooth. You’ll then need to wait 2 to 3 weeks until the partial crown is made. On your next visit to Optima Dental, we will place the inlay or onlay on your teeth, and secure its position with dental cement.
Benefits and Uses
The inlay or onlay makes your teeth stronger, and it helps prevent further damage to your teeth. We mold it to restore your teeth back to health. With this partial crown, your teeth will look and feel great without the need for a more extensive procedure.
Your teeth will also function better, which means you can chew your food with improved efficiency. And what’s more, you can smile confidently knowing that the decayed parts of your teeth have been replaced by an inlay or onlay. At Optima Dental, we can make sure that the partial crown on your tooth looks so natural no one can tell the difference.
